(Every student will have a chance to spend the day with Danny.) The student writes a journal entry in our class pet book and the book and Danny the Dinosaur will be auctioned off at the school carnival on October 23rd!

Tomorrow is YELLOW day!

Hello! Just a reminder that tomorrow is YELLOW day! Please dress your kindergarten student in YELLOW! :)

How fast can you melt an ice cube?

This afternoon we played a hilarious game! We each had an ice cube and we raced to see who could melt their ice cube the fastest! With each roll of the dice, we had to do different things to our ice cubes! For example, if we rolled the dice and it landed on 4, we had to blow on our ice cube for 10 seconds.

As you can tell from all the pictures, we had a blast! :)

What happens when you put gummy bears in the microwave?

This week we learned how heat causes change! Be sure to ask your student about all the science experiments we did! We had a great time performing our experiments!

Some important information!

Hello! Here are some important things to keep in mind…

1. It is time for us to start developing routines for the Guided Reading Folders. We will send home the Guided Reading Folder on Monday to begin practicing. Inside the folder you will find the “Blue” Book that we completed in class this week. Please have your child read the book with you each night. This is not a regular guided reading book. Those books will come home to you once the assessments have been completed. The Guided Reading Folder will come home Monday through Thursday of each week. Please send it back to school each day as this is what we use to teach the guided reading lesson the following day. Further directions will be given to you during our Parent Conference Day on October the 11th.

2. Leisa Hart from Fox 4 Good Day will be coming to speak at our PTA meeting on 9/16 at 9:30am. This will be a great opportunity to come hear about ideas on how to stay healthy!

3. The Canned Food Drive starts September 20th and will run to October 1. The drive benefits the Frisco Family Services Food Pantry. On these dates, please send in non perishable food items. Thanks for your help!

4. With Flu Season fast approaching, we could really use some hand sanitizer and Clorox Wipes for our room to prevent the spread of those icky germs and keep us healthy! If you would like to send some in we would really appreciate it! Thank you!

We like blue!

Family Unit & Homework!

Hi families,

I hope you all had a wonderful, long weekend! This week we are learning all about the color blue. We are also recognizing our new word wall words: "I" and "a". You might also hear your Kindergartner telling you all about how families are alike and different as we learn and talk about families this week.

Tonight you should also see our very first homework sheet for the week. These are just quick and fun enrichment activities for them to do at home. We are hoping they become a time at home to enforce things we are learning and also to help establish good study habits and a homework routine at home. For these reasons, we encourage that you only do one activity a day. Homework sheets are due Friday.

Thanks so much! Please check back/subscribe to the blog for more pictures and news.

Oops!

Mrs. Harbron made an "OOPS!" ~ We were all lined up to go to the library this afternoon... Except we were lined up 30 minutes late! Uh-oh! :(

I'll be talking with Mrs. Guerrero to try to schedule a time on Tuesday!

My apologies!

The Color RED, Weather & Numerals!

This week we are learning about the color red, talking about what makes a great friend and still practicing lots of classroom routines and procedures. We are really working on being independent and doing our very best work.

In science this week we are talking about weather. We had the greatest time acting out the weather!

We have also talked about numerals and made fun headbands! I'll be adding a picture soon! :)

We will have the opportunity to go to the library for the first time on Friday. Your child should have come home with their very first library book. Mrs. Guerrero will talk to us about how to care for books today while we were at the library. It is a great idea to have your child keep their library book in their backpack. This will help them to always have it when we go to the library and help prevent it from getting lost or damaged. So please read and enjoy the book and when done put it back in your child's backpack for safe keeping. This will help us out a great deal.

Many parents have expressed wanting to help out in the classroom and/or at school. Until PTA chooses our room moms and organizes a parent list of helpers, I am planning on requesting help on our blog. Please email me and/or post a comment on the blog if you're interested in coming to help for a particular task.We are currently needing a parent helper to come in our pod and help sort homework papers. We have a large set of papers that need to be sorted by the correct date. If you're able and interested, let me know. Thanks so much!
